Prilosec (Omeprazole) is a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) used to treat ulcers heartburn gastroesophageal reflux or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It works by blocking acid production in the stomach. What is Prilosec? • Prilosec decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. • Prilosec is used to treat ulcers gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD or heartburn) and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid production. • Prilosec may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Prilosec? • Before taking Prilosec tell your doctor if you have ever had any type of liver disease.
